This Week in Heating Oil: Copenhagen
The Copenhagen climate conference begins on Monday, December 7, and has dominated energy news this week as world leaders from across the globe prepare to meet and observers try to gauge what will happen. President Obama made waves when he proposed a 17 percent emissions cut for the United States. Not to be outdone, China announced its own goal of a 40-45 percent reduction in carbon intensity (which is not the same thing as carbon emissions).
While predictions about the effects of any emissions cut vary, some say consumers will hardly notice at all. The heating oil industry has already taken bold steps to reduce emissions and could be better prepared than other energy industry to adapt to new emissions regulations.

Thanks for this, Josh and Mike. It’s definitely a great step that the U.S. and China have agreed to take action. What’s even more important is that we follow through. There was a great editorial in the New York Times yesterday that said as much [http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/07/opinion/07mon1.html?_r=1&hp] There is still a tough road ahead for Obama to convince Congress to do the right thing. Fingers crossed!
