As the devastation continues in Haiti, there may be some help on the way from an unlikely source. Bloomberg reported Tuesday that the recent earthquake may have unlocked natural gas and oil reserves, resources that could aid economic recovery in the western hemisphere’s poorest nation.

The earthquake occurred along a fault line that may have cracked nearby rock formations, allowing gas or oil to seep to the surface. Stephen Pierce, a geologist who has long worked in the region, told Bloomberg as much in a phone interview on Monday:

A geologist, callous as it may seem, tracing that fault zone from Port-au-Prince to the border looking for gas and oil seeps, may find a structure that hasn’t been drilled. A discovery could significantly improve the country’s economy and stimulate further exploration.

The exploration of oil and gas in Haiti is far less developed than its immediate neighbor, the Dominican Republic, with which it shares the island of Hispaniola. There are an estimated 3 million barrels of oil offshore, as well as a possible 1 trillion cubic feet of gas trapped near the earthquake fault.

Currently Haiti, and more specifically, Port-au-Prince, is in a state of emergency, with over 150,000 dead and more than 600,000 without shelter. The main priority for the small island nation is relief and recovery for the survivors. Looking beyond the initial devastation, however, Haiti will need “massive support” for a “colossal” reconstruction, said Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive.

The Greater Antilles, which includes Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, collectively boast even bigger possibilities. With likely offshore reserves nearing 142 million barrels of oil and 159 billion cubic feet of gas, this new discovery could be just the thing Haiti needs to jumpstart its economy and fund its long process of rebuilding.

  1. Please…you have to blind not see what is going on here. Before Katrina hit New Orleans, it is said that the government knew that those retaining walls needed stablizing and serious overhall. I think they dragged their butts to wipe out a people and scattered them to the four corners of the world. Terrority is always the bottom line along with natural resources for the survival of fittest so to speak. Now, they are again dragging their butts and letting people die for what “Oil” gas, and land, and what ever else is there for the taking. Shame! just shameful…It is germ warfare in action, cause it is said that the military brought the cholera there, so it is so suspicious and the government is capable of anything….(it seems reminiscent of what the was done during the Holocaust)…think about it…are we that blinded by the garbage they keep us busy with and bombarding us with so much stupid tv, i.e. mindless programs like Ellen, Oprah,,,etc…you get it.

  2. For God’s sake, research HAARP. The earthquake was no accident.

U.S. SOUTHCOM Ran Complex Haiti Command and Control Emergency Relief Drills on January 11, 2010 the day before the quake!!!

By the way, the British defense forces were running a drill the day of the London train bombings, the drill was for a bombing on EXACTLY the same train platform on the SAME morning as the actual bombing! That way other emergency forces did not respond thinking it was the drill they were warned about.

ON 911, the military were executing a drill regarding a terrorist attack involving airliners ON EXACTLY THE SAME DAY AS 911!!! The emergency forces did not respond thinking it was a drill
Yes, the chances are astronomical, 911 is scientifically proven to be an inside job anyway.

How would they engineer the Haiti quake? Read on…..

The HAARP facility along with other worldwide installations probes the ionosphere with High Frequency Radiowaves. They can heat up sections of the ionosphere thus lifting those sections up forming bubbles that divert the jetstream (the atmospheric currents that carry water around the planet). This causes unusual rainfall and convection (turbulent weather).
The High Frequency radiowaves get refelcted back down from the ionosphere in the form of extremely Low Frequency Radiowaves that resonate in the Earth’s crust. If there’s pressure built up in a fault line, an Earthquake ensues.

So people really need to wake up to what’s going on in the world.

  3. Oh my…. There is oil in Hailti??
If it’s true, good for Heiti…But You can never
exclude the possibilty that developed countries could fight to have the oil…

  4. I recently decided to send relief for earthquake in Haiti. I pray that people donate to those affected by this terrible disaster too.

  5. To everybody, that doubts about oil in Haiti, please look at this article!!!!
    http://www.engdahl.oilgeopolitics.net/Geopolitics___Eurasia/Prize_Haiti/prize_haiti.html
I know, how unbelieveable dirty politics can be. As a christian I sometimes think, this can only be the work of the devil….
People, inform yourself, this is the time of aquarius,we don`t need corrupt politicians any more!! We need PEACE on this planet and not war for oil,etc…..!!!

  6. Since this is something that I have been aware of for the past almost 5 years, that foreign companies mainly from Canada wanted to be licensed to start exploring those wells,It just make you wonder.
I am not accusing anyone, but it wouldn,t surprised me a bit, that this was not a natural disaster as most think it is.

  7. As we see this situation developping in Haiti it is not a time to accuse nor to make excuses. We should be humble enough to accept the reality of this tragic disaster with courage and be thinkfull for the great help the country is receiving from people around the world. The time is not to accuse but, instead, to be greatful and respond in such a way to let the world know that we appreciate the tremendous effort being poured out to alleviate our pain and our sufferings. Please, please, please let us put aside our political opinions. our selfish ambitions, our erroneous comments to try to find the best possible ways to rebuild the country of Haiti. Our Loving God has a plan for Haiti.
As a Haitian, myself, along with many others, we want to raise our voices loudly to say THANK YOU to America and the rest of whole wide WORLD for all ITS help to Haiti.

  8. Sabotaged & destruction of democratically elected government; Earthquake that destroyed more than 200,000 inhabitants of Port-au=Prince;sudden discovery of oil in Port-au-Prince, Haiti is not coincidental. Powerfull nations have known for years about the 3 trillion cubic feet of oil reserves located in Haiti’s capital. This article makes me question whether or not the Port-au-Prince earthquake was a natural disaster and not a man made tragedy.

  9. Haiti is rich in resources, although it’s been described as the pooret nation. It was the richest colony back in 1800. It will will be once again.

  10. I hope that if these resources become a commodity for Haiti, let’s hope that the funds get to the right people. Many times in Haiti bad deals are made and the money is funneled elsewhere, or into someone elses pocket, and the real Haitian are still left suffering. If people want to make sure that funds get to the people on the ground, they are better off donating to places like http://www.treesforlife.org/ because this money goes straight to the people, rather than an ‘office’.

  11. Red Cross volunteers are continuing to assist the injured survivors of the Haiti earthquake and supporting hospitals struggling to cope with this emergency. Donations are still urgently needed to support the people of Port-au-Prince. To find out how more about Red Cross operations in this region and to support the Red Cross’ contribution to the DEC (Disasters and Emergency Committee) appeal click here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDKRoljtrLM

  12. I hope, that this will be for good for all haitians, not only corrupt politicians, or other countries….
The haitians really deserve this, after all, they had to go through…
People of Haiti, stand up for your rights, and don`t leave the money to politicians and military….

  13. The key word is MYBE…. no one is sure.

  14. Let’s not be cynical. It is without doubt that Haiti has suffered one of the worst natural disasters of any Country in the Western Hemisphere. More people have died in Haiti than the population of a majority of the Countries in the Caribbean. Without international aid and relief during good times much less at the time of a catastrophic disaster, Haiti would implode and its people would suffer beyond the imagination of most. It is because of the generosity of America and its people and the world community at large that those Haitians who have survived this disaster will find some form of meaningful relief. Think about it.

  15. with guano, gold, bauxite, the debt may not need increased n our back

  16. I wonder what Pat Robertson thinks of this?

  17. Military occupation in Haiti…Don’t like the smell of this.

  18. there are so many strange things in this world often leaving one with no choice but to be a cynic. but i hope that the oil dream comes true for Haiti. A silver lining for a stormy cloud!

  19. this could explain why ‘most countries are in a hurry to help save Haiti!’ there could be lots to gain in the long run! i wonder…….
