The Huffington Post reported Friday on some tangible results of the stimulus package passed earlier this year. Out of the Denver area comes a community-based initiative from the Laborers’ International Union of North America that trains and certifies weatherization workers to make people’s homes more energy efficient.
The graduation of LIUNA’s first batch of weatherization experts occurred—fittingly—on National Weatherization Day, and plans to save families hundreds of dollars each year on energy costs as well as create jobs in the area. Once rolled out on a larger scale, the LIUNA training program could create thousands of new jobs and save the country $3.5 billion per year in energy costs, or 500 million barrels of oil.
This is great news for heating oil consumers and unemployed workers alike! By auditing how much energy your home uses and then weatherizing accordingly (either by yourself or through a professional), you can save loads of money, as well as be kind to the environment.
